Little River at a glance.
When We Got Here....
… it didn't look so nice. Serving as the unofficial garbage dump for decades, the “Rez” had become littered with piles of debris and burned out vehicles. Still, one could somehow look past the mistreatment of this area and see its potential as an area for a park. When the community got together, even in limited numbers, and rolled up its sleeves, progress got made. Real progress. Over fifteen tonnes of refuse was hauled away in short order. Overnight a difference was made and immediately the people in the area changed their perception of what could be done at the “rez”.
There is an appetite for a new green space in the area. No wonder, because if you look at the map (pictured on the right) you'll see how little recreational space there is. It's remarkable that people who live here really have no place to go for a nice walk. Isn't it time to do something about that?
For those who have not been in the area, it truly is a beautiful spot. In wintertime there are crisp views of the frozen landscape, and summer brings an abundance of green. Little River flows into the head-pond of the reservoir and is surrounded by trees. Through this woodland setting runs a network of trails that one can walk, although not easily, and will eventually take one completely around the reservoir. And although it is in the middle of a suburban community, it remains “undiscovered”.
As a community we can make this space special. It can be a touchstone for the people to say “We did this. It’s ours.”
